California Inline Skating CoverCalifornia Inline Skating, was released by Foghorn Press in the Spring of 1996. On September 20th I submitted a 500-page manuscript to my San Francisco-based publisher after a year of meticulously budgeting every waking moment. Wouldn't you know, my research started during California's wettest winter in the last ten years, and within a month after securing a technical writing contract for Pacific Bell's new information superhighway team.

I'm so excited-and not just because my name will be on the book's cover! California Inline Skating is an in-line tour book listing 300 of the best skates in the state, with over 1100 miles in 15 geographical regions. In standard Foghorn style, each route has been rated by scenic beauty, quality of pavement and level of skills required to skate it, including a list of the types of skating it satisfies best. Every listing includes the best nearby skate shop, trail maps if any, and detailed directions for how to get there and where to park.

At the front of the book, excerpts from Get Rolling teach the skills required for the three ability ratings used in the trip descriptions. In the back pages, a special index lists the best routes sorted by skill level, fitness, hills and more.

In May, California Inline Skating will be on sale alongside Foghorn's other "human-powered sports" books in bookstores and at major sporting goods chains, as well as at selected skate shops. Of course, copies will also be available directly from me.

To discover the best trails in the most skatin' state, look for California Inline Skating at your favorite book or sports store. Meanwhile, thank you for your patience, and I promise to resume my regular quarterly publishing schedule for The Orbit.
