Get Rolling Skate School
- How many lessons do I need to become competent?
- What level beginner am I?
- How easy will it be to for me to master the basics?
Hi! I've been teaching beginning skaters since 1993. My specialties are getting first-timers rolling with confidence, teaching skaters at any level how to use the heel brake, and making sure my students know how to gear up and skate safely for the maximum fun and fitness benefits.
In addition to evening private lessons in Danville, my greater Bay Area availability runs from April 1 - October 31. Find details and lesson enrollment information on my Current Schedule page. In the off season, I do offer private lessons in Danville by appointment only, weather permitting. For questions not answered on my lesson pages, email me or call 925-323-0486. If my schedule and availability don't match yours, check my alternate learning options.
Gear Up
Students are required to bring their own helmets
(bike helmets are fine) and wear wrist guards, knee and elbow pads.
I have a limited supply of Rollerblade brand
skates and protective pads to borrow free of charge.
Here are East Bay area rental choices in case I don't have your size:

Shopping for New Skates
Before you shop, please CLICK HERE to read my worthy advice! Look for sales, but not cheap skates. With inlines, you get what you pay for. It's OK to shop online, but it's a bad idea to buy your first pair without trying them on. Here are some Bay Area shops to try:
- Palo Alto - Black
Diamond Sports, 162 University Avenue
650 289-0900 - Your local Sports Authority.
- Sunnyvale - InLine
Sports, 1180 Kern Ave in Sunnyvale.
408-735-7880 - Dublin/Pleasanton - Sports
Chalet, 4500 Rosewood Drive
925 -225-0708 - See gear recommendations in Liz Miller's Skating Store, powered by Amazon.com
Rain Policy
I teach during Daylight Savings Time, when the days are long and the chance of rainouts is low. On dubious days, if there is even a chance the pavement will be dry for the lesson's duration, I will be at the agreed-upon lesson site. However, class will be canceled if it rains. In that case, I will contact you at least half an hour before the scheduled start time, and we will discuss alternate dates.
Locations
Click on the city name for driving directions.
- South Bay--Frank Fisher Park, Fremont, a combined park and school with lawn-bordered pavement.
- North Bay--A fabulous concrete pad at Miller Knox Regional Park in Richmond.
- Danville -- Two locations: The Park and Ride has lots of empty spaces at the far end, and it's right next to the Iron Horse Trail. The Town Service Center makes a great site for building confidence with curbs, sidewalks, a gentle slope,a manhole cover and a patch of uneven pavement.
