How I can help you right now
I apologize for not being available to teach groups of eager San Francisco east Bay area skaters during late fall and winter every year. But here are five options that might help you weather (so to speak!) my off-season until spring:
- Get Liz-in-a-book: Buy a copy of Get Rolling the Beginner's Guide to Inline Skating—autographed of course!
- Take advantage of my Beginner's Checklist, where I offer links to all the most important articles on this site for getting a safe start. If you are more advanced, see my Intermediate's Checklist instead.
- Schedule a lesson with Phil Lenihan of Cupertino, a passionate instructor who is not hampered by the constraints of a "day job" as I am. (He has a web site, too.)
- Send me your email address and I will notify you as soon as the schedule for next spring is posted on my Class Schedule page.
- Send $2 and your snail mail address to Get Rolling PO Box 1115 Danville, CA 94526 and and I'll mail a free copy of my "classic" first edition of Get Rolling. ($2 covers my shipping cost.) The lessons are still very relevant to new skaters.
I do have limited availability for private lessons in Danville on some Friday afternoons, job and weather permitting. These are on a first-come-first-served basis, scheduled less than a week ahead of time to account for bad weather. Make an appointment by email or see my private lesson page.
Liz's Teaching Season vs. the Other Seasons
The clock-setting we all do for Daylight Saving Time also defines the start and end of my teaching season. After the October time change, it can be cold and unpleasant outdoors, even in California. Besides being too dark after I get off work to teach private lessons in Danville, we are frequently rained out. Rescheduling is disappointing as well as inconvenient for both me and my students.
Having an off season gives me extra time to indulge in skate business activities and roles that I neglect the rest of the year. It's a creative time when I can recharge this web site and my lesson offerings for the following year. As a publisher, I have time to look for avenues to nurture sales of my books in traditional and online markets.
Outside my skate business, as a daughter and sister, I look forward to preparing for and spending holiday time with my family. And as a passionate alpine skier, I actually pray for percipitation so I can spend off-season weekends in the Sierra Nevada mountains playing in the snow with my favorite skate and ski partner, webmaster Dan.
I know you don't need to know this, but I agonize over every skater I turn away!
See you in Spring,
--Liz
